Nottingham Games 2010


On the 6th of November, Malaysians all around UK gather at the biggest Malaysian sporting event in UK -- The Nottingham Malaysian Games. This year, UPMY sent their football and netball teams to compete in the sporting events.

First social of 2010!

Last week, the society held their first social event. It was held at the Student Union's 3rd Space. The MC of the event was vice president Jameson, who also gave a presentation of the committee. The general election was also held, and we now have new committee members! Yay! But before proceeding with that, here are a few pictures of the event!

Annual General Meeting 2010

On 30th Oct 2010, we will be holding our First Social Event at 3rd Space.
This will be the chance for all members to get to know all committee members and grill us on the society's financial management, publicity and sports issues, and the whereabouts of University of Portsmouth Malaysian Society (UPMY) in the UK.

Freshers' Fayre 2010

Freshers Fayre came and go.......and so did you! Last September, during the Freshers' Week, the university held Freshers' Fayre, a fair where all clubs and societies get a chance to promote themselves. University of Portsmouth's Malaysian Society (UPMY) didn't miss out on this event and took part as well. Here are some pictures of you eager members signing up.

Nottingham Games 2010 invite

Assalamualaikum,
Hi,

In three weeks time, Malaysian Society University of Nottingham will organize Nottingham Malaysian Games, known to many as Notts Games.
The event which is held in conjunction with Malaysian Food Festival will take place at different venues in University of Nottingham, on 6th November 2010.

Nottingham Malaysian Games is the largest sporting event of its kind, attracting members of Malaysian-related university societies from the length and breath of EnglandScotlandWales and Ireland.

It's a good chance for you to get to know other Malaysians in the UK, explore Nottingham if you want to, participate in any sports that you have confidence in such as badminton, football, netball, volleyball, tennis or even congkak and batu seremban.

If you are interested to join our sports team or support them, if you feel like tasting real-licious Malaysian food in the UK or if you wish to explore Nottingham instead, please reply this email saying you're in.
  
And please sign-up your name at Waterhole bar at Student Union (some of Malaysian Soc. committee members will be waiting for you there).

The time for signing up is as below:
Monday (18th) : 12-2.30 pm
Tuesday (19th) : 3-4.30 pm
Wednesday (20th) : 1-3pm
The last signing up will be on Wednesday. 
It'll be priced at £10 for members and £12 for non-members.

The first meeting for 2010

On the 24th of September, the Malaysian Society gathered all the Malaysians in Portsmouth to give a briefing and presentation of the society. We had speakers presenting at the gathering, all sharing their experiences as a student studying in a foreign country.


The attendants of the gathering, which included many B. ED TESL juniors and seniors, as well as other students from Malaysia.


Mr. Roslan Muhammad giving a speech on spirituality, and Muslims' way of life in UK.


Puan Fazlinah Said, a PhD. student here, giving a speech about the ways of studying here in the UK.

Mr. Wan Agyl from Southampton University, or famously known to us Malaysians here in the UK as Soton, came as a representative of the MSD and MSA.

Puan Ashmiza, former teacher at MARA Junior Science College in Malaysia, who is now a PhD. student, giving a speech about the differences between Western and Asian culture.

The students listening attentively to the speeches and presentations.

Kickers FC, a very active Malaysian football team here in Portsmouth giving a presentation about the club.

It was a successful event of introducing the society to all Malaysian students studying in Portsmouth, thanks to the dedication and commitment of all the committee members. 'Til the next meeting!
