Assalamualaikum wbt and good day to all :)

Speaking of festivals and celebrations in Malaysia, University of Portsmouth Malaysian Society hosted a two-joined festivals combining Aidiladha and Deepavali since the date gap for both celebrations are quite near. Deeparaya was the name of the event. This event was on Saturday the 17th of November at Southsea Community Centre.

Deeparaya event was about gathering Malaysians together having the atmosphere of celebrating aidiladha and deepavali in Portsmouth. Enjoying the Malaysian foods served and having fun with the games we played was totally the reason why we're having that event. And the most important thing dressing up wearing malaysian tradisional clothes like baju melayu, baju kurung, dhoti, sari and many more!

Some of the early comers that day, congratulations :)
Bottom left picture : Ching and Haziq, the emcees for the event :)

We got around 100 +/- people attend for the Deeparaya event. Good for you if you came for it because the event was really a nice start meeting with all of you after the first event we had which was the welcoming party. The foods served on that day was seriously, superb delicious :) The main dish was nasi tomato served along with ayam masak merah and sayuran aca. It wasn't just nasi tomato as the main dish, there were actually roti canai served with kuah dal as well. Having kuih muih and cakes for desserts just made them smile even more eating.

Everyone proudly showing and eating their foods as it was really really nice
Middle right picture : Iylia and hanis in action serving the foods ^^

Talking about the lovely foods, there were actually some entertainment for the audience while they were having their time eating. Definitely a few students decided to volunteer themselves to perform a mix of malay indian dancing which was fantastic. It was just seven minutes worth performance to look at i guess. Some say it was sweet, some say it was actually hilarious. What say you? :D

One team missing though :P

More and more they had fun with the games and prizes to be won. With four teams divided competing for the games given. Yes, almost everyone involved having joys and laughters trying to make the best for their teams. As usual, lucky draw is a must for this event. And not to mention, best man and woman dress of the day have prizes as well :) At the end of the day we finish the event with a photography session of the society :) the picture looked ultimately pretty and sweet as everyone wears colourful different attire. yeay!

Nottingham Malaysian Games

...

NOTTINGHAM MALAYSIAN GAMES
2012

Assalamuailkum, Ola, Bonjour Pompeians !! :)
For the 28th time, Nottingham Malaysian Society again presents you their yearly annual event which is the Nottingham Malasyian Games (NMG) 2012. Just so you know, NMG is one of the biggest Malaysian event held in the United Kingdom. Over 5000 students attend this event from about 56 University all over the United Kingdom and Ireland as well.

Nottingham Malaysian Games is not just about participating for the games and sports they hosted and compete for your university. Literally meeting new and old friends, members, from different University having fun sharing your experiences in the UK besides learning something new. Yet exploring the city of Nottingham was actually quite nice. And what's not, you got the chance to taste a lot of Malaysian Food like Nasi Lemak, Satay and many more aside from watching some traditional cultural performances. :D

So, as a tradition every year, University of Portsmouth did organised a trip to Nottingham as there is quite a few number of people participating for the games. Around 82 people from Portsmouth went for the Nottingham Malaysian Games which we provided one coach for the supporters and one mini bus for the athletes competing in the games.

leaving from the student union at 1:30am

This year we sent seven teams for the Nottingham Malaysian Games 2012. Which is really great that we got people that actually want to participate for the games and representing UPMY :) The games we participated were :-
  1. Men's 5 a-side football
  2. Men's Basketball
  3. Netball
  4. Badminton
  5. Table Tennis
  6. Congkak
  7. Batu Seremban

It was really a great day for everyone at the NMG. Even though our contingent did not win anything for the games we participated, but we presume everyone had fun playing it besides gaining new experiences as well. The day ended with the football finals before proceeding for the closing ceremony at the main sport centre. Yes, we can see everyone is really tired by looking at their faces on the bus on our way back to Portsmouth. But still a lot of smile as well before they went to sleep. We hope that you guys are really enjoyed with the event hoping that you would come again next year if you got the chance to. And more participation in the games as well please for next year. Hope to see you again at the next NMG 2013 :)
